Foreign investments are considered an essential source for strengthening the economy at the country level, and contribute significantly to economic development. Foreign direct investment is an important part of these investments, as it contributes effectively to increasing the gross product and is a real addition to the economy. Foreign investment plays an important role in stimulating global trade, as it provides commercial enterprises with opportunities to expand their markets and export their products, and contributes to improving technology and reducing production costs. All countries are competing to attract foreign direct investment due to its positive role in achieving targeted growth rates and opening new opportunities for economic development.
In the Sultanate of Oman, foreign investments witnessed an increase of 6% by the end of 2020, with the total value of investments reaching 22.244 billion Omani riyals, compared to the same period in 2019.
Foreign direct investment in the Sultanate witnessed an increase by 9.2%, reaching 15.761 billion Omani riyals by the end of 2020, representing 70.9% of the total foreign investment. This investment accounted for 78.2% of GDP in the same year. As for the industrial sector, the value of foreign direct investment in the manufacturing industry amounted to about 1.6944 billion Omani riyals at the end of the second quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year. This shows that the Sultanate continues to attract foreign investments, and pays special attention to strengthening the industrial sector and stimulating sustainable economic development.
